Zimbabwe Cabinet supports abolition of death penalty



Foreign media reports that Zimbabwe's cabinet has backed proposed legislation to end the death penalty.

It marks a major point in the abolition of the death penalty in South Africa.

Minister of Information Jenfan Muswere has stated that the Cabinet's decision was taken after a nationwide consultation.

Foreign media reports that if the bill is approved by the parliament, the maximum sentence will be life imprisonment.

Foreign media also reported that President Emmerson Mnangagwa had previously criticized the death penalty.
