According to the Irrigation Department, the ongoing heavy rainfall will cause around 15 small and large reservoirs to spill.
Irrigation Director General L.S. Suriyabandara stated that six sluice gates in the Rajanganaya Reservoir have been opened.
This has released a water capacity of 5087 cubic feet per second into the Kala Oya.
Several reservoirs, including the Rajanganaya, Siyambalangamuwa, Deduru Oya Reservoir, Batalagoda, Hathwatun Oya, and Yodha Wewa, are also reportedly being spilled.
The Irrigation Department has informed the public that the water levels in the reservoirs may rise further in the future due to the ongoing rainfall, and the people in those areas should be careful.
