An explosion has occurred in an illegal coal mine in the Indian state of Meghalaya.

Foreign media reported that 18 miners have died in the explosion.

Another person has also been seriously injured in the accident.

It is suspected that several more people are trapped in the mine after the explosion, and it is reported that operations have already been launched to rescue them.

This illegal mine is located in a forest area 72 kilometers from the state capital, Shillong.
