A lorry travelling from the Barial Junction towards Thanamalwila has hit a child who was walking on the side of the road.

It happened in the Malabotuara area on the Thanamalwila road in Udawalawe.

A 13-year-old child has died in this accident.

Police stated that the child who was injured in the accident died after being admitted to the Udawalawe Hospital.

The driver of the lorry has been arrested in connection with the accident and the Udawalawe Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
