It is planned to construct 4,700 estate-related houses this year under the 10,000 houses project implemented under the Indian aid scheme.
Plantations and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathna stated that there have been reports that previously the selection of housing beneficiaries has been based on political affiliations.
However, this time, he emphasized that the work will be carried out more transparently on a priority basis without any political party color discrimination.
It has been planned to give priority to people living in houses located in landslide-prone areas.
The minister also said that it is expected to spend Rs. 1,300 million from local funds for the development of infrastructure by improving estate houses.
