India's focus on issuing visas to Canadian citizens

Indian Exte al Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said that if there is progress in the security of its diplomats in Canada, it will resume issuing visas to Canadian citizens.

India stopped issuing visas to Canadian citizens in September, saying security threats were disrupting the work of its missions in Canada.

Relations between the two countries soured after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced in September that he would investigate credible allegations linking the Indian state to the killing of a Sikh leader in his country.

Foreign media reported that India strongly rejected the allegations and took measures regarding the safety of diplomats.

Last week, Canada's foreign minister said 41 diplomats had left India.

This happened after India asked Canada to withdraw its staff, foreign media say

Canadian authorities call this a 'violation of inte ational law'.
