The American administration has proposed to impose additional import taxes ranging from 10% to 12.5% on goods imported from 60 countries, including Sri Lanka.
Foreign media reported that this proposal has been submitted, pointing out that insufficient measures have been taken to prevent the import of goods manufactured using forced labor and that this is causing unfair impacts on American trade.
Accordingly, it has been proposed to impose an additional tax of 10% on goods imported from several countries, including Canada, Mexico, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Malaysia.
It is also reported that it has been proposed to impose an additional tax of 12.5% on 45 other countries, including Sri Lanka.
