American scientist and Nobel laureate James Watson, who pioneered the discovery of the structure of DNA, has died.
He was 97 years old at the time of his death.
He and British scientist Francis Crick discovered the double helix of DNA, which is considered one of the greatest discoveries of the 20th century, in 1953.
Their discovery was a major milestone in the rapid development of molecular biology.
As a result, they were awarded the Nobel Prize in 1962.
