Japan has provided a grant of 300 million yen to increase the capacity of Sri Lanka's waste management system under the Clean Sri Lanka program.
The amount is reported to be 565 million Sri Lankan rupees.
The relevant Memorandum of Understanding was signed yesterday (03) in the presence of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
It was at the Presidential Secretariat.
Japan's Parliamentary Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Sayama Akiko, and Secretary to the Ministry of Finance, Mahinda Siriwardena, are reported to have signed it.
This grant will provide 28 compactor vehicles for waste transportation to improve the waste management capacity of local gove ment institutions, of which 14 vehicles are to be provided to the Weste Province, 08 vehicles to the Easte Province, and 06 vehicles to the Northe Province.
