Hong Kong's Secretary of Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan says that the import of seafood from 10 prefectures in Japan will be banned.
That is due to Japan's decision to release radioactive water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the sea.
Accordingly, more than 1.3 million tons of water will be released into the sea.
This plant was unable to be used due to the tsunami that affected Japan in 2011.
Commenting on this matter, the Japanese Foreign Minister asked the Hong Kong officials not to tighten the restrictions on seafood imports.
Also, Hong Kong is considered to be Japan's second largest market for agricultural and fishery exports.
