The Navy has seized drugs valued at more than Rs. 18,790 million this year, according to Navy Media Director Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya.
In the latest operation on November 16, the Navy intercepted a multi-day fishing vessel in the deep sea west of Sri Lanka, uncovering over 46 kilograms of heroin. Five fishermen, aged 23 to 33 and residents of the Gandhara area, were taken into custody and brought to the Galle port yesterday.
The vessel and suspects have been handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations. Captain Wickramasuriya highlighted that the Navy’s intensified operations have led to significant drug seizures, underscoring their commitment to combating drug trafficking in Sri Lankan waters.
