Nasa's 'Earthrise' astronaut dies in a plane crash



Bill Anders was a lunar module pilot on the Apollo 8 mission. He took the iconic Earthrise photograph as known as one of the most memorable and inspirational images of Earth from space.

It was taken during the Naza's 1968 mission of Apollo 8. It is the first crewed space flight to leave Earth and reach the Moon. The picture shows the earth rising above the horizon from the barren lunar surface.

Andres was flying a small aircraft when it crashed into the sea off Washington state.

His body was recovered on yesterday (7) afte oon. He was in his 90s when he died.
