Steps have been taken to gazette 16 government forests as reserves under the “Vanaspathi” national program to preserve and protect forests.

It is reported that government forests have been declared as reserves centered around the Moneragala, Ampara, and Kandy districts.

An area of 5711.75 hectares of all those government forests has been declared as reserves.
