In preparation for the upcoming Christmas and New Year festivities, the police have implemented a special security program to ensure public safety.
Police Media Spokesperson, Senior Superintendent of Police Buddhika Manatunga, announced that over 6,500 police officers have been deployed in the Weste Province alone. Additionally, more than 500 officers will be in plain clothes to monitor and identify potential thieves and criminals near religious sites and busy shopping areas.
A dedicated security plan will also be enforced across the island to protect religious places, including Catholic churches.
'We urge the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. Protect your property and money by staying aware of your surroundings,' said Manatunga.
