Plantations and Community Infrastructure Minister Samantha Vidyarathna stated that plans have been made to cultivate 36,000 acres of new coconuts this year.
This was while participating in the Plantations and Community Infrastructure Ministerial Consultative Committee recently.
He said that 16,000 acres of this land belong to the Northe Coconut Triangle, and the remaining 20,000 acres belong to other areas.
The minister further stated that 2.5 million seed coconuts will be produced this year with the aim of improving coconut cultivation.
