The Chairman of the Gem and Jewellery Authority, Navin Suriyarachchi, stated that the country's gem exports are expected to increase to one billion dollars this year.

This was stated at a media briefing held at the Gove ment Information Department today (04).

At that time, he stated that currently about 90% of gem exports are taking place in an informal manner.

Accordingly, the chairman further stated that converting gem exports into formal exports has become a huge challenge at present.
