Strong earthquake hits northeastern Japan



A strong earthquake measuring 6.7 on the Richter scale struck northeaste Japan today (12).

Foreign media reported that the quake struck off the coast of Aomori Prefecture at a depth of 20 kilometers (12 miles) at 11:44 a.m. local time.

The Japan Meteorological Agency has issued a tsunami wa ing, wa ing that waves could rise up to 1 meter (39 inches).
