Effective today (23), tri-forces personnel assigned for the security of former presidents have been withdrawn, with only police officers continuing to provide protection.
The decision was discussed during a parliamentary meeting last week, where Public Security Minister Ananda Wijepala outlined the reasons for the change. The number of police officers assigned for this purpose has also been reduced, though the gove ment assures that a sufficient number remains to ensure the safety of former presidents.
The Ministry of Defense emphasized that the security arrangements will be reviewed every six months and strengthened as needed to address any potential conce s. The decision to scale down security was made due to the high costs associated with deploying tri-forces personnel for this purpose.
