The Colombo High Court has sentenced six individuals to death for their involvement in a fatal brawl that took place at a funeral home in Narahenpita in 2016. The incident, which occurred on July 20, 2016, resulted in the death of Manjula Mahesh Jayathilaka and injuries to another person.

The verdict was delivered by Colombo High Court Judge Aditya Patabendi after a lengthy trial. The Atto ey General had filed charges against eight defendants in connection with the death and injuries caused during the violent confrontation between two groups at a funeral home on Udyana Road. Two of the accused had died during the course of the trial.

Judge Patabendi concluded that the prosecution had proven the charges against the remaining defendants beyond a reasonable doubt, and the death sentences were handed down accordingly.
