A schoolgirl who was walking on the side of the road was hit by a lorry yesterday (06).

It happened near rubber plantation No. 79 on the Kanadola-Illukthenna road in the Elapatha police division.

The schoolgirl died in the accident.

Police stated that the injured student died after being admitted to the Ratnapura Hospital.

The student who died was an 11-year-old resident of the Alukatiya area.

A suspect has been arrested in connection with the accident, and the Elapatha police are reportedly conducting further investigations.
