AI Steps Up to Neutralize Online Abuse During 2024 Summer Olympics

An AI algorithm is tackling the vast influx of social media content surrounding the 2024 Summer Olympics to combat online abuse.

The Inte ational Olympic Committee (IOC) estimates more than half a billion posts, not counting comments, creating a text volume 638 times longer than the King James Bible. With over 15,000 athletes and 2,000 officials under intense scrutiny, the AI system aims to protect them from hate, harassment, and threats, safeguarding their mental health and performance.

This initiative underscores the growing focus on mental health in sports and the increasing role of AI in managing online abuse.
