Thriposha production has been temporarily halted due to the restriction on maize imports.
Sri Lanka's Thriposha Company stated that the Cabinet has approved the import of eighteen thousand metric tons of maize for the production of Thriposha.
However, the Controller General of Imports has submitted amendments to it.
Sri Lanka Thriposha Company Chairman Amal Attanayake stated that the import of maize has been restricted until the new cabinet paper containing the amendments is submitted to the Cabinet on the 7th and approval is obtained.
The chairman says that Thriposha production has been halted since the 21st as a result.
He further stated that Thriposha production will retu to normal with the commencement of maize imports after the 7th.
Sri Lanka Thriposha Company Chairman Amal Attanayake also stated that the currently produced Thriposha stocks are being distributed islandwide.
