DIG Ms. Renuka Jayasundara says that the Sri Lanka Police has been able to join an inte ational data system that can identify people who distribute obscene photos and videos of children on the Inte et or through social media.

That data system is called 'Inte ational Center for Missing & Exploited Children.'

The DIG mentioned that the Sri Lanka Police was able to join this data system about 2 months ago and through that they can get information about people who frequently watch obscene videos on the inte et.

Mrs. Jayasundara said that Inte et service providers connect to this inte ational data system and exchange the information, and through it, they are able to identify such people very easily.

Mrs. Renuka Jayasundara stated that in 2023, 98,000 cases of children being abused on the inte et have been reported and in 2022, 146,000 children have been abused through new media.
