In order to overcome the current delay in issuing passports, approval has been given to increase the number of passports issued per day to 4,000.

It is also reported that the Department of Immigration and Emigration plans to operate 24 hours a day.

The Cabinet has approved the proposal to employ the additional staff required for this purpose by employing retired officers who have served in the department on a contract basis with the consent of the Public Service Commission and by attaching officers currently in gove ment service, in consultation with the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Gove ment.
