The Central Environmental Authority says that cases have been filed against 32 shops in the Kataragama sacred city that used plastic and polythene.
The authority further stated that the shops were found during inspections carried out since May 31st.
5 teams have been deployed for these inspections.
The Central Environmental Authority stated that 75 shops were inspected.
Polythene garlands, plastic materials, and substandard lunch sheets, the use of which is prohibited, were found in them.
The Central Environmental Authority stated that the cotton merchants have been informed not to take steps to take action against plastic garlands and substandard items in the sacred materials brought from outside the temple premises.
