Minister of Buddhism, Religious, and Cultural Affairs Hiniduma Sunil Senevi stated that 42 ancient paintings from the National Art Gallery have gone missing.
This was while answering oral questions in Parliament today (21).
Information regarding this disappearance was reported after a survey of paintings and sculptures from the National Art Gallery by a property survey board in 2015.
The minister further stated that although the total number of paintings mentioned in the inventory was 281, there are currently only 239 paintings in the art gallery.
