The Uva Province has the highest rate of malnutrition among children under the age of 5 in this country, said Dr. Wasana Marasinghe, a nutritionist at the Badulla Teaching Hospital.
This was while participating in an awareness program held at the Badulla Teaching Hospital yesterday (10) in conjunction with an awareness walk on the importance of nutrition.
Meanwhile, she further stated that not only malnutrition but also ove utrition, that is, unnecessary weight gain, is also prevalent in this province.
She said that the basic reason for this is the low level of knowledge among people.
