Air New Zealand has abandoned its ambitious 2030 carbon emissions reduction target, citing difficulties in acquiring more efficient aircraft and sustainable jet fuel.
The airline, the first major carrier to retract such a climate goal, remains committed to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and is working on a new short-term target.
The aviation industry faces hurdles including high costs limited availability of Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) and delays in new aircraft deliveries from manufacturers like Boeing and Airbus.
