The Cabinet has given its approval to suspend the implementation of new wind power projects on Mannar Island.

It is reported that President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has informed the relevant authorities not to implement any more wind power projects on Mannar Island without the consent of the people of the island, taking into account the environmental and social issues raised by the public in the area.

The Minister of Energy has forwarded the President's notification to the Cabinet.

The Cabinet reportedly decided to act accordingly.
