Britain’s General Election on 4th July

The Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak announced the UK’s General Election for Thursday 4th July 2024 in a rain-soaked speech outside 10 Downing Street yesterday(22).

However, his statement did not go entirely as it was planned due to worsening rain and blasting out activists.

Currently, the Conservative Party rules the UK. But Labour Party have been leading in general election opinion polls since late 2021.

It is said that the Labor Party will win this year's general election due to the Conservative Party's unpopularity.

According to the UK's electoral system, voters don’t elect a prime minister directly.

They elect a member of parliament (MP) to represent their local constituency.

The leader of the party that wins a majority of the United Kingdom’s 650 constituencies spontaneously becomes prime minister.
