The Railway Department says that the railway system has suffered damage worth nearly 1.7 million rupees due to the Wanawasala train accident.

Its Roads and Industries Sub-Department stated that nearly 200 feet of railway tracks, sleepers, and railway sections have been severely damaged due to the accident.

The Railway Department also stated that the damaged sections have now been repaired.

It is also reported that an assessment of the damage to the railway signaling system and train carriages is currently being carried out.
