The National Dengue Control Unit says that there has been an increase in dengue cases this year compared to last year.
The Director of the unit, Dr. Kapila Kannangara, stated that the number of dengue cases reported this year has increased by 50%-55% compared to last year.
Also, 36,168 dengue cases have been reported this year as of June 5th.
Of these, 50% of the patients have been reported from the Weste Province.
In addition to the Weste Province, the highest number of dengue cases have been reported in the Galle and Matara districts of the Southern Province, the Ratnapura, Kegalle, and Puttalam districts of the Sabaragamuwa Province, and the Kandy district of the Central Province.
