The Homagama High Court, presided over by Judge Mohamed Irshadeen, ordered the release of eight suspects involved in the Club Wasantha murder case on strict bail conditions today (10).
Each suspect was required to pay a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and provide two sureties. Additional conditions included a travel ban, surrendering their passports to the court, and appearing at the Athurugiriya Police Station every Sunday to sign in.
The case stems from the July 8 shooting in Athurugiriya, which resulted in the death of businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera, also known as Club Wasantha, and another individual, Nayana Vasula Wijeratne, during the opening of a tattoo parlor. The suspects were initially arrested and remanded for allegedly aiding and abetting the murders.
State Counsel Shakthi Jagodaarachchi informed the court that some of the suspects might be named as witnesses in the case. Legal representation included President's Counsel Saliya Peiris for the 12th suspect and Atto eys Vishwa Vidanagamage and Nuwan Jayawardena for suspects 03, 04, 05, 06, and 07.
