The Election Commission announced today (17) that the income and expenditure reports of all candidates, party secretaries, independent group leaders, and national list candidates who contested the parliamentary election will be made public.
Election Commission Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake stated that the reports will be available for public access at all district secretariats and the Election Commission office in Rajagiriya.
As per the Election Expenditure Regulation Act, the deadline for submitting income and expenditure reports ended at midnight on December 6th. Out of 8361 candidates representing political parties at the district level, 7412 candidates have submitted their reports. Additionally, 493 out of 690 candidates from independent groups and 434 out of 527 national list candidates have complied with the requirement.
Chairman R.M.A.L. Ratnayake emphasized that legal action will be taken against candidates who fail to submit their income and expenditure reports.
