The Election Commission announced that ballot boxes and all necessary election materials will be issued to polling stations across the island today (13).
Commissioner General of Elections Saman Sri Ratnayake stated that the distribution of these supplies, including ballot boxes and papers, will take place from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. across 49 locations, covering 25 district secretariats and 22 constituencies. Staff will also participate in rehearsals to ensure smooth operations.
Approximately 64,000 police officers have been deployed to secure all constituencies, Police Spokesman DIG Nihal Thalduwa reported. Additionally, around 6,000 representatives from the People’s Action for Free and Fair Elections (PAFFREL) will monitor the election process, according to PAFFREL Executive Director Rohana Hettiarachchi.
The Department for Registration of Persons also announced that all public services, including its one-day service, will be suspended tomorrow (14), as staff members are assigned to election duties.
