The Freedom People's Council has strongly criticized former President Ranil Wickremesinghe's decision to postpone the local gove ment elections, calling it a 'political abortion' following alleged mass corruption and economic mismanagement during his tenure.
In a letter addressed to the President, the Opposition Leader, all Members of Parliament, and the Bribery and Corruption Commission, Council leader Dallas Alahapperuma expressed his intention to take legal action to recover over Rs. 720 million spent on the elections, which were not held.
Alahapperuma demands that the funds be retu ed, holding the responsible officials accountable for the financial waste. The letter, titled 'Pay the price for aborting democracy; a criminal charge against President Ranil', also calls for criminal charges against former President Wickremesinghe.
