The Department of Meteorology has issued a statement saying that the rain condition of the island is expected to increase and the northeast monsoon weather condition is gradually establishing over the island.

That is due to the turbulent nature of the Bay of Bengal sea area in the southeast.

The announcement also states that rain or thundershowers will occur from time to time in North, East, South, North Central and Uva provinces.

After 1.00 pm in the rest of the island there will be scattered showers or thunderstorms.

In Easte , Central, Uva and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts, heavy rains of about 100 mm may occur in some places.

People are kindly requested to take necessary measures to minimize the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may accompany thunderstorms.
