The Department of Meteorology issued a statement stating that favorable atmospheric conditions have arisen for thunderstorms to occur in many parts of the island in the evening.

The statement states that heavy rains exceeding 75 millimeters will occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southe , and Uva provinces and the Ampara district after about 1.00 pm today (05).

The Department of Meteorology also requests the public to minimize the dangers caused by lightning.
