Minister of State for Finance Mr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya confirms that import restrictions on another 300 types of goods will be removed by the weekend.

Accordingly, the number of goods subject to import restrictions will be reduced to 1,216, State Minister Siyambalapitiya said in Parliament.
 
The state minister said that the gove ment had to take a difficult and unpopular decision due to the economic crisis.

He also mentioned that the public is gradually enjoying the results of those decisions.
 
The Minister of State acknowledged that small and medium scale businesses were affected due to import restrictions and now steps are being taken to reduce interest rates as the restrictions are being gradually eased, he said.
 
The State Minister mentioned that such measures will help economic activities.
