Indian waste flowing into Sri Lanka on the rise

The Marine Environmental Protection Authority says that with the monsoon, the amount of plastic and other waste coming from India into the country's marine system has increased.

Its chairman, Samantha Gunasekara, stated that the waste is mostly found in the Kalpitiya, Negombo, Mannar, Jaffna, and Delft sea areas.

The Ministry of Environment has also initiated a special inspection in this regard.

Deputy Minister of Environment Anton Jayakody stated that discussions will be held with India in the future regarding this matter.
