A doctor who was bathing in the sea off Mirissa drowned yesterday afternoon (25).

It is reported that the deceased is the chief doctor of the Walana Regional Hospital in Weligama.

He was rescued by the locals after drowning and admitted to the Matara General Hospital, where he died.

It is reported that the doctor in question, who was 49 years old, had started working at the hospital about a month ago.
