Low-Pressure System Expected to Develop Over Bay of Bengal



The Meteorological Department has announced that a low-pressure area is likely to form over the southeaste Bay of Bengal within the next 24 hours. The system is expected to develop gradually and move westwards towards the northwest, eventually approaching the Tamil Nadu coast near the northe part of the island over the next two days.

Residents in the Easte and Northe provinces are urged to stay informed about updates and advisories related to this weather system.

Weather Forecast

  • Cloud Cover: Most parts of the island will experience cloudy skies.
  • Rainfall: Showers or thundershowers are expected in the Northe , Easte , North-Central, Uva, and Northweste provinces, as well as the Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts. Evening or nighttime showers may occur in other areas.
  • Heavy Rainfall: Some areas in the Northe , Easte , North-Central, and Uva provinces, along with the Matale district, could experience heavy showers of around 100 mm.
  • Light Rainfall: Light showers may occur in the weste coastal areas during the mo ing.

Wind and Fog Conditions

  • Winds: Strong winds of up to 40 kmph are likely in the Northe , North-Central, and Northweste provinces, as well as in the Matale and Trincomalee districts.
  • Fog: Mo ing foggy conditions are expected in the Central, Sabaragamuwa, and Southe provinces.

The public is advised to take precautions against temporary strong winds and lightning during thundershowers to minimize potential damage.
