Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation, Bimal Ratnayake, announced plans to initiate new projects aimed at improving the transportation of goods by train.

Addressing the media after a meeting with Railway Department officials and trade union representatives at Railway Headquarters, the Minister assured immediate action to address the department's employee shortages. He also emphasized efforts to reduce train delays and defects, noting that budget proposals have been submitted to enhance the railway service.

Following an observation tour of the Maradana Railway Station, Minister Ratnayake highlighted the gove ment's commitment to mode izing transportation infrastructure.

Additionally, after a special observation tour of the Colombo Port, the Minister stated that the Easte Terminal is slated for completion by June 30th next year, aligning with the gove ment's broader development objectives.
