A 2.5% tax has been introduced on imported vehicles from April 1, said Arosha Rodrigo, media spokesperson for the Vehicle Importers Association.

This was stated at a media briefing held in Colombo today (13).

He stated that this is a tax approved in the 2026 budget and that it does not apply to vehicles currently being cleared.

He further stated that the relevant tax will be levied at customs itself.
