The second generator of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has been reconnected to the national grid. The Ceylon Electricity Board informed NewsRadio that the generator was added to the grid last night.
On the 8th of August, one of the three units of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant suffered another breakdown placing further stress on generating electricity in the country, especially at a time hydro-power generation has been severely affected due to a drought.
The CEB said as a result of the breakdown, only one generator of the power plant was operating and it adds 300 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
However, the second generator was added to the grid yesterday after completing the necessary repairs.
The national grid lost 270 megawatts of power due to the breakdown.
The third generator of the Norochcholai Coal Power Plant has been disconnected from the grid since June for scheduled maintenance.
