Road permits for private buses will be issued only if CCTV security camera systems are installed on those buses, said National Transport Commission Chairman B. D. Vitarana.

This was stated while participating in a media briefing held at the Gove ment Information Department today (05).

He further stated that a mobile phone application is expected to be introduced to report complaints related to violence against women.

He stated that a long-term program is needed to prevent violence against women in public transport and that steps should be taken to make public transport a common space for women.
