The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) directed the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit a proposal for revision of electricity bills.
That is after considering the favorable hydro-power storage and profit ea ed in the year ending December 2023.
Accordingly, the end-user and wholesale supply tariff proposals forwarded by the CEB from January to March 2024 have been received by the Public Utilities Commission on January 16, 2024.
After that, the commission asked for some clarifications from the CEB, but the said information has not yet been received.
The Commission intends to consult stakeholders as required under Section 30 (3) of the Sri Lanka Electricity Act (SLEA) on the proposed tariff structure and associated costs.
The process is to be launched as soon as possible to ensure timely implementation of the tariff revision.
Meanwhile, CEB has given an opportunity to comment on the forecast costs proposed by CEB for 2024 and the tariff structure proposed by CEB (3.34% reduction).
The Electricity Board says that all comments should be sent in writing by e-mail, fax or post on or before February 12, 2024.
An oral counseling session is scheduled to be held on February 15, 2024 in Colombo.
In the meantime, the Ceylon Electricity Board's electricity tariff amendment proposal has been made public for public information.
