North Korea has fired several cruise missiles into the sea off its east coast, South Korea's military says.

It added that the nuclear-armed communist state has repeatedly tested missiles in recent months, raising regional tensions.

Foreign media say that the latest missile launch took place near Sinpo port and it is not yet clear about the number or type of missiles launched.

South Korea's Yonhap news agency has reported that North Korea tested a new strategic cruise missile called Pulhwasal-3-31.
