The Department of Meteorology says in a statement that the southwest monsoon has fully established over the island.
Due to this, there will be rain or thundershowers from time to time in Weste and Sabaragamuwa provinces and Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Some places in Sabaragamuwa province and Galle, Matara, Kalutara and Colombo districts may experience heavy rains of more than 100 mm.
There are several rainy seasons in the North-West Province.
In Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts there will be scattered rain or thundershowers during the evening or night.
In North and North-Central Provinces and in Hambantota, Puttalam and Trincomalee Districts, strong winds of around 40-45kmh are possible.
People are kindly requested to take necessary measures to reduce the dangers caused by temporary strong winds and lightning that may occur with thunderstorms.
