The Meteorological Department issued a statement stating that favorable atmospheric conditions have developed for thunderstorms to occur in many parts of the island in the evening.

The statement states that heavy rains exceeding 75 mm will occur in the Sabaragamuwa, Central, Southe , and Uva provinces and the Ampara district after 1.00 pm today (08).

The Meteorological Department also urges the public to minimize the risks of lightning strikes.
